I have recently read this book:

Creative, Inc. : the ultimate guide to running a successful freelance business by Meg Mateo Ilasco & Joy Deangdeelert Cho.

and I love it! Should be read by anyone intending to start a business in the creative field. I found it really varied with informed opinions and a “no fluff” approach (i hate fluff talk 🙂 ).  The info provided will work for anyone with any interest so whether you want to start selling quilts or are a photographer, it will help you. There are great resources in there and a whole lot of case studies and interviews about various subjects.

The authors didn’t try to sell you any particular way to do something or any other things you might not need but they did give you quite unbiased information about it.

I found the pricing chapter, the chapter about agents and the portfolio chapter the most useful for myself. The business section (with how to register your business and IRD issues etc) is also very valuable.

I got it from the library but I think I should buy it, it’s really good and I don’t think I can simply remember everything :-)…
