I have been working on a really nice piece of packaging design, recently (well at least I hope it will be 🙂 ). I worked on a luxurious Soap packaging with a box that unfolds flower-like and a nautical theme because the company I created for it is called “Seascape Soap”. I wanted the illustrations to look classic and elegant but still have a cute, whimsical feel and hand made drawing style.  These are some of the sketches I made for the design:

The design is almost finished and will be up on the design portfolio part of my website soon.

While I was working on this I had a look at two really cool packaging design books, one for inspiration, the other one was really interesting to learn about what actually goes into a packaging design and all the things you have to consider when creating one.

This book has loads of cool designs and ideas in it, also in terms of typography!

Boxed and labelled : new approaches to packaging design / [edited by Robert Klanten … [et al.] ; text by Shonquis Moreno].

The book that has a lot of background info on packaging design is

Package design workbook : the art and science of successful packaging / Steven DuPuis and John Silver ; design by Braue-DuPuis.

Another book that is really cool when you’re designing packaging is the

The packaging and design templates sourcebook 1 and  2 They have all these templates you can use or adapt if you find a box or similar to use for your packaging!
